WOMEN AT MCCORMACK & STUDIO 103
Building a place where more women can thrive
Construction is changing, and we’re proud to be part of that change.
At McCormack and Studio 103, we want people to feel that there is a place for them in our industry and an opportunity to build a rewarding, long-term career. For women, that means creating an environment where they can join our business, feel supported, develop their skills and see genuine pathways to leadership.
We’ve made meaningful progress, and today women represent:
- 34% of our team company-wide
- 32% of our senior leadership team
- 41% of our management team
- 47% of our office teams
- 18% of our trade teams
- 12% of our site teams
We’re proud of these numbers, particularly the growing representation of women in management and leadership. We also know there is more to do, especially when it comes to creating opportunities for women on site and in trade roles.
How we compare
Women continue to be underrepresented across Australian construction. In our most recent available WGEA comparison, covering similar-sized employers in Non-Residential Building Construction, women represented 13% of managers and 21% of non-managers.
Our current figure of 41% women in management is encouraging when considered alongside that benchmark. The categories aren't directly comparable across every part of our workforce, so we see the figures not as a finish line, but as a reminder of both how far we've come and the opportunity ahead.
Creating opportunities from the beginning
We want more women to see construction as a career where they can belong and succeed.
Our framework sets out our approach to attracting, recruiting and retaining women throughout their careers. This includes building connections with TAFEs, universities and community organisations, as well as supporting pathways for apprentices and graduates.
Our recruitment approach also includes gender-neutral job advertising, diverse recruitment channels and, wherever possible, diverse interview panels.
Making everyday work more inclusive
Sometimes inclusion is about the big commitments, and sometimes it’s about getting the everyday things right.
Our framework includes appropriately tailored uniforms and PPE, along with practical measures such as free sanitary products in women’s bathrooms and hygiene support for women working in trade and site environments.
These are simple but important ways we can help create workplaces that work for everyone.
Supporting women to grow
Joining our business should be the beginning of an opportunity, not the end of one.
Our framework includes mentoring for new female team members and clear training and promotion pathways that support career development and progression into leadership.
We also recognise the value of connection. Our framework includes opportunities for women to connect and share experiences, including free membership of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).
Supporting work and life
Careers don't exist in isolation from life outside work.
We offer flexible working arrangements including flexible start and finish times, reduced hours or part-time work, hybrid working and remote working where appropriate to the role. Alternative initiatives for site and trade teams include Family & Friends shutdown weekends.
We also provide employer-funded parental leave for eligible primary and secondary carers, regardless of gender, with superannuation paid on employer-funded parental leave.
Building what comes next, together
We’re proud of the women who are already helping shape our projects, our teams and our business.
But creating a more inclusive construction industry means continuing to open doors. We have targets focused on increasing the representation of women in management, key management personnel roles and traditionally male-dominated positions, alongside reducing our organisation-wide gender pay gap.
Whether your future is in the office, on site, in a trade, as an apprentice or graduate, or one day around the leadership table, we want women to see construction as an industry where they can belong, grow and build something they’re proud of.
Come and build your future with us.
